“Human Kind: Be both” exposes the brutal truths hidden in plain sight: girls mutilated in the name of culture, sold into marriage before their voices deepen, and forced into motherhood while still children themselves.
This is not just tradition; it is violence. It is a war on the bodies and futures of young women, upheld by silence, ignorance, and complicity. Through raw, unflinching stories of survivors, gatekeepers, and families trapped in this cycle, the film reveals the psychological scars, shattered dreams, and systemic failures that allow these practices to persist. It asks: What will it take to end this? This is more than a film – it is a rallying cry for justice. A call to invest, intervene, and dismantle the chains that bind our daughters to this fate.
At Filmspace, we believe that storytelling is activism. Each of our films is not only a work of art but also a vehicle for advocacy, dialogue, and transformation. We remain committed to amplifying the voices of the marginalized and continuing to create work that resonates both locally and globally.
Since our inception in 2009 with a passion project birthed at the East Africa Film Academy, Filmspace has evolved into a bold voice for social justice, equity, and human dignity through film. Our mission has always been rooted in storytelling that not only reflects our realities but also challenges systems, uplifts the unheard, and inspires change.
